Godinje on Skadar Lake & Boat ride
Discover the beauty of Skadar Lake, the biggest Balkan Lake and one of the five National Parks in Montenegro. Due to its geographic position and sub Mediterranean climate, it is one of the most important habitats of swamp birds in Europe, right after the river Danube delta. There are around 280 bird species on the lake, including the rare curly pelican, which became a trademark of the National Park.
We drive to Virpazar, once important lake trade center. After short walk through the place we have a boat ride on the lake, passing through Moraca river and Lesendro fortress and Vranjina monastery.
The monastery is from 13th century located on beautiful position on the hill over viewing the lake and the surroundings.
Swim break in the lake in the hot summer month is a special experience.
We come by boat to the Godinje village, a picturesque small village dated back from 10th century, with fantastic tunnels and terraces, built to provide a secure passing the inhabitants during the siege of Turks.
We have fish lunch in a beautiful traditional tavern in the village with degustation of local red wine, with a terrace providing fabulous lake view.
Ride back to the coast leads the old road over the Pastrovica hill with fantastic views on the coast.
